Mary 'Lois' Phillips

November 18, 1919 ~ April 28, 2008


 

Mary ‘Lois’ Phillips entered this life November 18, 1919 to Thomas Dee and Minnie Maudella (Bates) Nix in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma.  She entered into rest April 28, 2008 in Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years. 

Lois graduated from Tuskahoma High School. She married Jewel Phillips in Tuskahoma.  They moved to California in 1942.  She worked as a secretary at the Coachella Valley School District, Covalda Date Plant.  Lois and her husband, Jewel, moved back to Oklahoma in 1972.  They liked Sulphur and decided to make Sulphur home.

Lois was a caregiver; she raised her brother, Russell, and sister, Jean, after their mother died.  She also cared for all her family after coming back to Oklahoma.  She loved people.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sulphur and has taught Sunday school of over sixty years. in 1942. 

She was preceded by her husband, Jewel; her parents, Thomas and Maud Nix; two sisters, Marie Howdeshell and Flora Jean Armstrong; and one brother, Tom Nix.  She is survived by one brother, Russell Nix and wife, Weda, of Indio, California; four nephews, Rodney Nix and wife, Karen, of Ojai, California, Kim Nix of Ventura, California, Garvin Nix and wife, Jo Ann, of Oklahoma City, and Bryon Nix of Indio, California; and three nieces, Robin Hove and husband, Brant, of Ventura, California,  La Juana Nix of Indio, California, and Cynthia Nelson and husband, Don, of Madera, California.

Service:  2:00 PM, Saturday, May 3, 2008, First Baptist Church, Sulphur, Oklahoma

Interment:  Oaklawn Cemetery, Sulphur, Oklahoma
